7 COMPELLING REASONS YOU SHOULDN’T WISH FOR OVERNIGHT SUCCESS

Most of the people who choose a career in music dream of ‘blowing’ or becoming a success overnight. All they think of is, ‘let me release my first song and just blow like this. After all, Davido, Banky W, and D’banj all did it, so I can too.’ But I’m here to tell you that even though there are some who become overnight sensations, it isn’t really wise for you to wish the same for yourself.

The seven reasons below will tell you why you shouldn’t wish for overnight success.

1. With the success comes an unimaginable wave of fame, fortune and attention. Now if you aren’t truly ready for it, you wouldn’t be able to deal with it. Some artists have confessed to deleting their social media accounts and hiding from the public, while others have gone as far as using hard drugs just because they couldn’t deal with that wave.

2. When you hit it big with that one song, most times, you aren’t ready to actually perform that song on stage. Remember how Nonso Amadi’s performance at Davido’s 30 billion concert went?

3. Critics and fans also come with the territory, and as many people have shown with the constant bashing of Mr Eazi, they are always on the lookout for any misstep or mistake you make. A silly remark, comment, the way you dress or even your next song can either make or break you after becoming an overnight sensation. Look at how poorly fans reviewed Mayorkun’s ‘Sade’ after the success of his debut single “Eleko”. and if you aren’t ready to receive criticism, then your spirit will break and you may lose your will to continue making music.
